In a bid to make this a great blog and worthy of getting people to read it every day I've been reading up on blogs.
One alleged expert said one thing that will kill a blog is posting too often. Now, he didn't say what that meant...he could have meant ten times a day or maybe he means every day.
I couldn't get an answer from him so I figured I'd ask my readers...how much is too much? I try and put up a tip a day for you guys but, if it's too much, let me know and I'll happily cut it back.
Over to you.
Regards
Nick
Hey, I'm not an expert - I don't even play one on TV. But...
ReplyDeleteI try to post daily updates on my blog. That doesn't always work and I end up with between about 4 and 6 posts per week. The Blogburst syndication service recommends "frequent updates" with a "minimum of one per week". They also suggest 400-600 word length posts.
I'm not sure what your expert is thinking , but it appears to me that more content is better so long as reading your blog does not become like drinking from a firehose and it doesn't give you (the writer) burnout.
I personally love your hints that you're posting and I love having them on a daily basis. I thought you were right on in your recent post about jointlocks and self-defense (though that might sound a little like blasphemy to judo or aikido guys). I'm planning to write a response to that jointlock post on my blog today or tomorrow...
I think your doing a great job and I look forward to reading your blog daily. One alleged expert? Whateva! Maybe he is worried about running out of ideas?
ReplyDeleteIf you delay too long on new posts, I would be concerned that your readers may stop comming back. Imagine if the news papers only put out one paper a week? I would look elsewhere for information.
You have a lot of valuable knowledge and experiences that you are willing to share with us. I for one enjoy the blog and soke up your advise like a sponge.
Thanks for sharing.

Dean
Mr Hughes,
ReplyDeleteWell thought out and considered posts will keep me coming back to any blog I have an interest in.
If you can manage a post day I'd read it. In my own blogging though I wouldd probably string it out to once every 3 days.
You can always buildup a back log of posts in draft from as well.
Hi Nick. I've been reading your blog for a couple weeks now, and find it very worthwhile. I think it's all about the quality of the posts. Short and sweet, and highly informative. Where bloggers run into trouble is ranting on and not getting to the point.
ReplyDeleteI attended a seminar with you some years ago at Rick Mirandette's class in Grand Rapids, MI. The lessons you taught then have stuck with me.
Keep up the good work!
